By Surrey and Hants News in Local People

THIS year’s VE/VJ Day celebrations will take place in Gostrey Meadow on August 19, courtesy of The Royal British Legion (RBL).

VE, or Victory in Europe, Day commemorates the end of World War II in Europe on May 8, 1945, and VJ, or Victory over Japan, Day remembers August 15, 1945, when the Empire of Japan surrendered.

From 12-5pm, visitors can have a go at interactive games about World War II and the Homefront as well as investigating history of military and artillery equipment. There will be two World War II ARP (Air Raid Precaution) wardens who will attend in a vintage caravan.

Among the stalls will be a vintage hairdresser, vintage clothes, flowers, jewellery, knits, cards and plaques, alongside fair rides, a falconry display and Mr Rod Type – the Magician.

Refreshments will be available from the vintage tea room, as well as burgers and hotdogs served by the Farnham RBL team and from 7.30pm there will be a tea dance and raffle at the Liberal Club in Farnham.

Any local businesses who can contribute raffle prizes are asked to contact Ian Hunter, Farnham RBL Branch Secretary by emailing [email protected].

All proceeds raised will go to The Royal British Legion.
